You guys, I’m trying SO hard to be a morning person. It’s been a years-long struggle, and I’m slowly coming to terms with the fact that mornings just aren’t for me! LOL.  In my quest to make some sort of change in the right direction, I’ve learned that creating a morning routine helps–not only do you kick off your day with a little investment in yourself, but you actually have something to look forward to every morning! (That used to be breakfast for me, haha!)

To put it plainly, working from home can make you lazy. I mean, LAAAAZYYYY. I can work from my bed, couch, kitchen table, or office in pajamas and a head scarf. As long as I’m getting the work done, anything is fair game. And as much as I love not having to go into the office and being able to roll over RIGHT at 9:30am and get to work, I must admit that it’s made me so lazy. Seriously! I start working, get into a little groove, and before I know it, it’s 3pm, I haven’t showered, and my teeth aren’t brushed (TMI, but hey–y’all are like family now!).

I seriously had to put a stop to that and create a routine that has me waking up early and doing what my friend Janna calls “having a morning.” Having a morning simply means you have time in the morning to do things YOU enjoy before you get to work for everyone else. For me, that means I wake up before 9am, brew my coffee, spend time chatting with bae, make a little breakfast, and read an article or two. Let me tell y’all, IT HAS HELPED SO MUCH!

Like I said, I am not a morning person, so waking up around around 7:30am is pretty early for me. When I wake up, I give myself a moment, then head to the bathroom to brush my teeth and wash my face before stumbling to the kitchen to put on my pot of coffee.

While that’s brewing, I take a shower and get “dressed”. Most of the time, I’m wearing leggings and a T-shirt with my hair in a puff. I probably get DRESSED dressed with a full outfit 2 times a week, 3 times on a good week.

By 8am, I’m drinking my coffee and making sure I get my Melissa Chanel posts scheduled for the day. I also look through any articles I may want to share with you guys regarding fashion, lifestyle, and of course, sneakers.

At 8:30am, Isa and I are headed to the gym for 30 minutes of cardio. He has to be to work by 10am, and if I don’t have early meetings I get started with work by 9:30. This 8:30 workout time gives us plenty of time to get our energy up before the craziness of our day kicks off.

By 9am, I’m back in the house, energized, and ready to start my day. And yes, of course, I sometimes skip the gym (no shame in my game!), and I don’t always get up at 7:30 on the dot, but I’ve committed to the idea of playing life on the offense and not the defense. That starts with beginning my day the way I want my day to, and finding out just what makes me the happiest, most productive Melissa Chanel I can be.  Okay, where are all my work-from-home Mobsters? I would love to hear all about your morning routines. Let’s help each other out!

XOXO,
